L - Bergthold was elected chair man of the club to fill the vacancy left at the death of the club’s chairman, E. M. Hursh. MRS. GREGG HONORED ON HER BIRTHDAY Honoring Mrs. Laura E. Gregg on her birthday, Albert and Stan ley Garland entertained with a chicken barbeque in the yard at the home of the former Sunday afternoon. Guests were Mr s Gregg, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Morri son, of Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. Roy Moore of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Essie Garland, Mrs. Stanley Gar land, Brenda and Stanley, Jr., Mrs. Elbert Garland and Marshall. MRS. BURGESS HAS BRIDGE PARTY Mrs. Worth Burgess was hostess to her bridge club at her home last Thursday evening. Guests were Mrs. Arthur Hemphill, Mrs. Wil liam Hickey, Mrs. A. G. Callison, Mrs. Chester Sobol, Mrs. Ruth Cunningham, Miss Lou Lindsey, and Mrs. T. W. Nesbitt. Mrs. Hickey held high score and Mrs. Sobol low\ Mrs. Hemphill won the floating prize. LILLI A UPTON WED TO CLAUDE SHIELDS Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Upton of Dysartsville, N. C., announce the marriage of their daughter, Lil lian, to Craude W. Shields, son of Mr and Mrs. W. W. Shields of Belmont, N. C., on Saturday ev ening, March 27 in Asheville. The bride wore a beige gab ardine suit with brown and white accessories and a corsage of red roses. Mrs. Shields is employed as switch hoard operator at Western N. C. Sanatorium. Mr. Shields is employed at the Sanatorium store.
